Example: blowing up a bridge to stop trucks from dumping oil in the ocean or something like that.
You saved the ocean but you blew up a bridge and could have hurt someone.
Stuff like that. Are there any cases where violence was used to promote a just cause?
Forget it.
Violence offends most honest people and merely discredits the people engaging in the violence.
For example I went to the University of California as a student during the Vietnam War.
I was opposed to the Vietnam war and infact I am one of the founding members of the Peace movement in the early 1960's.
However on campus many people opposed to the Vietnam war used arson and other violent methods to protest.
Those of us who opposed the violence of the radical extreme left were genearlly accused of somhow being responsible for the Vietnam war.
The result was that when we witnessed crimes commited by the members of the radical extreme left we reported the culprits to the local Police.
A large number of the people involved in the violence were arrested, prosecuted and jailed as a result of our reports to the police.
When the radical extreme left eventually found out that we were the ones reporting them to the Police they were even madder at us.
All the radical extreme left accomplished with their violence was to make other people who also opposed the war waste the time that we would have used to help develop opposition to the war and instead use that time in collecting evidence on the identities of the members of the radical extreme left who were committing the violence.
In the United States of America we use the ballot box to change bad policies.
The use of violence is always a criminal matter and is highly inappropriate .
There is nothing heroic or admirable in the use of violence to protest governmental policies that you do not like. Are there any cases where violence was used to promote a just cause?
A lot violence attached to the Anti- Abortion debate. People killing people for them having an abortion or being the doctor who did the abortion.
The American Revolution.
The French Revolution.
The US and its allies in WW II.
Most decent people support the Palestinian people's right to fight against the Israeli occupation of their land.
have you ever heard of GREENPEACE ?
